Concerned you will be stuck with tens of thousands of dollars in debt and left searching for a job after getting your degree?

Consider an attainable career in construction. The construction industry has one of the fastest growing employment rates and it is expected to continue to grow over the next decade. What does this mean for you?  It means the possibilities are limitless for a career in construction!  What are you waiting for?

Where should you start?

1. Pick a trade –  There are many options for you to choose from such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, pipefitting, sheet metal and sprinkler fitter. You can find the trade that best fits your interests and ambitions.

2. Find a contractor looking for apprentices – we can assist you in finding a job by setting up interviews with potential employers.  Here is what you need:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • OSHA 10-Hour Certification
  • Driver’s License 

3. Enroll in a 3-5 year Apprenticeship – Once a contractor hires you, you can enroll in an apprenticeship program. Once you start working, on-the-job learning is considered working experience toward the trade. The best part is you get paid while you are learning!  

  • Some companies have their own apprenticeship program or
  • Enroll in the Apprentice Program with ABC MA. 

4. Enroll in evening trade classes – A reputable construction school/program such as the  Gould Construction Institute (GCI) offers the opportunity to take classes at night, allowing you to work during the day. Most programs offer classes two nights a week for 3 hours per night, allowing apprentices to typically complete their classroom hours in 3-5 years.  Click on this link to learn more about GCI’s programs.

5. Additional Instruction/education – Your education and career does not need to end once you complete your apprenticeship program. If you decide you want to move up the career ladder or own your own company, GCI offers career development and continuing education courses to help you get there. A partnership with  Wentworth Institute of Technology allows GCI apprentices to use their completion certificates in electrical and pipefitting to get credit towards an Associate Degree.
