  • Construct foundational concrete surfaces for highway, commercial, and industrial structures from the ground up
  • Use high-tech equipment and critical thinking to ensure concrete surfaces meet the desired pitch, depth and alignment
  • Work individually and in teams to construct meaningful and lasting contributions to our urban environment

CONSTRUCTION CRANE OPERATION

  • Operate hydraulic boom or tower and cable equipment to lift and move materials, machines and products in many directions
  • Work with a team to interpret rigging tables and load charts to move valuable equipment using the highest safety standards
  • Utilize skill and coordination to operate machines weighing up to 300 tons at high elevations

ELECTRICAL

  • Design, install and troubleshoot advanced electrical components, wiring and control systems that power commercial, industrial and residential buildings
  • Use logical thinking and math skills to interpret blueprints, program equipment and layout design
  • Utilize innovative advances such as alternative energy systems, electronic systems technology and programmable logic controllers

HEATING, VENTILATING, AND AIR CONDITIONING

  • Install, service, or repair heating and air conditioning systems in residences or commercial establishments
  • Torch, braze and solder pipes and fittings to install and repair compressors, condensers, chillers and pumps in a wide range of heating, ventilation and refrigeration systems
  • Apply environmentally safe principles and techniques to residential, commercial and industrial settings

HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATION

  • Shape the earth by operating bulldozers, scrapers, motor graders, and other construction and site preparation equipment in a variety of environments
  • Operate heavy construction equipment and power-driven machinery to move dirt or other materials in changing environments and terrains
  • Use critical thinking and math skills to master site layout plans, surveying and excavation techniques

INSULATING

  • Assemble and repair insulation on industrial equipment, pipes, ductwork and other mechanical systems
  • Design and fabricate insulation systems to control noise and maintain temperatures on heat exchangers, storage tanks and boilers
  • Protect outside environments from exposure to hazardous liquids and gases

IRONWORKING

  • Erect buildings, bridges and other structures by installing and connecting iron and steel beams, girders and columns
  • Install reinforcing bar for concrete structures
  • Work in high places to assemble the structural framework of commercial and industrial construction projects
  • Operate the same advanced welding and fabrication equipment utilized by certified professionals

MILLWRIGHT

  • Assemble and repair turbines, compressors, motors, and generators in unique and changing environments
  • Installs, dismantles, repairs, reassembles and moves machinery at construction sites and in facilities including general manufacturing, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food and beverage, water and wastewater treatment and power plants/alternative energy
  • Use vibration analysis and precision laser alignment technology to install critical equipment at refineries, chemical manufacturing and power generation facilities
  • Use logical thinking and detailed math to interpret plans, program equipment and layout design

PIPEFITTING

  • Layout, cut, thread, fabricate and install critical piping systems using a wide range of professional power tools and equipment
  • Use pressure gauges and hydrostatic (and sometimes radiostatic) testing to inspect, examine and test pipe line systems
  • Solve complex problems using reasoning and advanced math to assemble and install advanced pipe systems, pipe supports, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment

PLUMBING

  • Solder, braze and use cutting tools to build and install water, waste and gas systems
  • Troubleshoot and repair complex commercial and residential piping systems alongside licensed Master Plumbers
  • Install environmentally sound fixtures according to renewable energy regulations and state codes

SHEET METAL AND FABRICATION

  • Cut and mold sheets of metal into components for installing heating, ventilation, and air distribution systems
  • Operate fabrication machines such as plasma cutters, brakes, presses, and forming rolls to cut, bend, block and form materials
  • Solve challenging problems with highly technical layouts, blueprints and specifications using math and critical thinking

SPRINKLER FITTING

  • Install, repair, maintain and inspect various types of fire protection systems
  • Use electricity, chemical compounds, and complex piping systems to ensure safe living and working environments for the community
  • Interpret blueprints and electrical schematics to meet local and national sprinkler codes

WELDING

  • Control heat, gases and electricity to design, dismantle, and construct a wide range of metal products
  • Fuse and cut various metals
  • Interpret weld maps, blueprints, and specifications using math and critical thinking

Career Focus:
Pipe welding subject to MA Pipefitter License. Prepared for immediate employment as apprentice.  Journeyman status upon completion of apprenticeship and passing exam.  Master level available.  Non-licensed (non-pipe) welding work – Certification required; advanced certifications and further education available.
